Description

Opening

A rubber rugby ball covered in raised nubs, with a hole at one end that kibble falls out of as the toy is nosed around. The oval shape is the point: it will not roll in a straight line and it does not bounce where the dog expects, so a thrown one keeps a dog working rather than trotting back after two seconds.

The body unscrews at the moulded seam round the middle, which is how it gets filled and, more usefully, how it gets cleaned out properly afterwards.

One size only, so the fit question is the dog rather than the toy. At 14 cm it is a two-paw object for a medium or large dog and too big for a small mouth to carry. No breed guidance is published, so none is invented here.

Filling it

Dry kibble and small hard treats. Anything soft packs against the hole and stays there
Start it loose and easy. A toy that gives nothing back in the first minute gets abandoned
Count what goes in as part of the day's food rather than on top of it
